My approach to problems is to examine each area of the problem including psychological, biological, emotional, social, and spiritual. Services provided will stem from a Cognitive Behavioral Approach (CBT), Person-centered therapy, solution-focused approach, and also an integrative therapeutic approach. These therapy models have been research, established, and proven successful in working with clients form all types of backgrounds with all types of presenting issues. I believe that problems are multi-faceted and are at time caused by irrational beliefs, thoughts, and unsuccessful behaviors. Essentially, if we can recognize personal irrational beliefs and/or thoughts, we can change the approach to something that works for you and is beneficial for you.
To begin this process, we will establish goals together, and then find specific and working strategies that will assist you, the client, in achieving those goals. At various points throughout the process, progress will be examined and assessed. If needed, together we will modify treatment plan, goals, and strategies. The success of this process relies on our working together myself, the counselor, and you inside and outside of the counseling sessions to successfully complete and maximize the benefits. During this process, there may be homework, exercises, or journals assigned for you to complete in between sessions. Rarely rapid changes can occur, however progress is typically steady and gradual. Some exercises and effort may be continues or repeated if necessary.
For couples specifically, the PREPARE/ENRICH program is where we begin the process. This requires the couples to each take an individual assessment, which determines specific areas of focus. In the following sessions, the assessment is reviewed and goals established with both partners.
